3 Ways to Prevent Toenail Fungus

Toenail fungus is among the most commonly known infections for a variety of reasons. One primary cause is lack of awareness as to how you attract fungus. If you know what causes it and how you may easily attract fungus, you can surely prevent experiencing the discomfort and unsightly presence of toenail fungus. Here are three ways to prevent toenail fungus:

1.    Use Comfortable and Breathable Footwear

Your shoes should be a proper fit, giving your feet room to move within your footwear. In other words, your feet always need breathing space. There must be a certain amount of breathing space. Without this, your feet suffocate, creating an ideal environment for fungus to take root. Lack of air, perspiration and warmth are a mixture that’s ideal for fungal growth. So, wearing breathable footwear should be a priority. In warm and damp weather conditions, it’s best to wear sandals. However, at places where you must be in formal attire, just make sure your shoes are loose enough to ensure comfort.

2.    Going Barefoot at Pools and Locker Rooms Exposes Your Toenails to Fungal Infection

It’s quite common to see people barefoot while showering at public places. However this can lead to fungal infections. So, it’s best to use shower shoes or flip flops to stay safe from things like athlete’s foot, ringworm and other skin infections that are caused by direct contact with the floor.

3.    Never wear Other People’s Shoes or Share Footcare Equipment

Always try to use your own footwear and your own footcare equipment. These type of products include toenail clippers, pedicure tools and foot rollers.  Avoid using anything of this sort that belongs to someone else or has not been thoroughly disinfected.

Adhering to these basic precautionary measures is a must to steer clear of toenail fungus infections. Sometimes, toenail fungus may take root without you having a clue, and this is especially why you need to be careful.
